Journalist writing and working  - The Commons - State Library of New South Wales.Lend an Ear, Come and Hear is an annual event produced and sponsored by the Writers in the Grove group.

Writers in the Grove is a group of area writers who meet weekly to write, read and discuss the art of writing. Their purpose is to encourage and support each other in developing their writing skills. They often have guest specialists from Pacific University and published authors in prose, poetry and fiction.

The group offers of a variety of regularly scheduled meetings and special events in Forest Grove, Oregon. All are welcome to join any of the group’s activities. Most of the events are free and open to the general public.

Adult Writing Workshop: Led by MJ Nordgren, this group meets weekly on Monday mornings from 9-11AM at the Forest Grove Senior & Community Center at 2037 Douglas Street, Forest Grove, OR 97116. The group offers gentle support and encouragement with writing exercises from prompts, sharing and reading work-in-progress, and supporting each other through the writing process.

Saturday Writing Workshop: Led by Mary Slocum, this group meets regularly on Saturday mornings from 10:30 – Noon. The group focuses on writing from prompts, critiquing, and editing for submission, encouraging writers to improve their skills and publish their work. The event is at the Forest Grove Library. Poet/Story Reading plus Open-Mic: Once a month on Saturday, from 10:30 – Noon, all are invited to a reading by a local guest writer followed by an open-mic session where everyone is invited to present a public reading of their work for a maximum 5 minutes each. The event is at the Forest Grove Library. Contact the library for more details.

Annual Book Sale: During the year, used books and books by local authors are collected for the annual book sale held in the fall at the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center. Proceeds benefit the Senior Center to show our appreciation for the use of their facility and support of their services.

Lend an Ear, Come and Hear: An annual free event open to the public featuring local authors reading 4 minute selections of their poetry, short stories, and excerpts from their writings. Originally held at the Theatre in the Grove, then the Forest Grove Public Library, for the past few years, it has been held at the Plum Valley Winery in Gaston, Oregon, and attracts people and writers from around the community to the outdoor event with snacks and wine tasting.
